As a poker chip's Edge Design made place?

An edge spot design is that small poker chips painted mark on the edge of the casino. I wonder whether they were painted on the chip, or is it another type of clay in the chip composed one, to form the design?

I work in the plastic box, and It looks like they printed on by an operation known as pad printing. We made plastic poker chips in the school and pad printed them with our college logo. I would imagine The same procedure would work for sound.
