Why Learn Multiple Poker Games?
It’s pretty obvious that no limit texas holdem is the worlds most popular poker game. It gets far more publicity than any other form of poker and is the favorite of most top poker pro’s. So why do you need to learn to play other types of poker? A lot of times the holdem game gets tough and other games like omaha or seven card stud are far more beatable. If you are looking to play poker for a living it’s important to be able to capatalize in this scenario to maximize your poker profits! It’s likely that when you sit down at a texas holdem table many of the players are just as skilled if not better poker players than you are. They’ve read all the same books and played thousands of hands online just like you. This is not the case many times in omaha or seven card stud. Many of these players are still learning to play the game effectively. So if you’ve read a book or two on omaha or stud and have some hands played under your belt it will be rather easy to take their money.
With so many forms of poker out there how do you choose which ones to learn? You have to choose one of relative popularity just for playability. There is no sense learning chinese poker if you can’t find a game anywhere for real money. I suggest mastering games like pot limit or no limit omaha, omaha 8 or better, seven card stud, and even limit holdem. Learning all of the above would be ideal and really isn’t as difficult or time consuming as it sounds. If you are serious about becoming a professional poker player it’s important to be well rounded. It’s not about being the absolute best texas holem player in the world. You need to take advantage of the most lucrative poker cash game available at any time you choose to play. Sometimes this will be no limit holdem. Other times it will be omaha or even limit holdem. There are many different ways to learn all of these games. My suggestion is to buy and read a book or two on each. Then play for free at an online poker room until you are comfortable with your skills. There is no better way to learn than by playing free poker. Play a few thousand hands or so and you will be dominating whatever cash game you wish to play in!
