Stratosphere Las Vegas
History
It was suggested that Vegas World will be merged into this article or section. (Discuss)
In the early 1990s, the stratosphere was conceived by Bob Stupak to replace his Vegas World casino. In the design of the project, one of the planned rides was to create a giant ape that would carry riders up and down a tower of his columns. The original plans presented to the stratosphere than the height of the CN Tower (1,815 ft (553 m)) and is the world's tallest free standing structure that time. But because of possible interfence with the nearby McCarran International Airport, and any flights, who come through Las Vegas, the tower of the proposed level declined several times to its current height ft 1,149 (350 m).
On 29 August 1993 began, the tower fire while still under construction. No one was hurt but the fire forced repairs and alterations, which led to numerous delays in the construction of the tower.
In 1995, at Grand Casino as an equity partner for the still privately-funded project under construction. During construction or preceded, was the Stratosphere Corporation as a public company whose shares made available to the public.
The Stratosphere opened on 30th April 1996. Shortly after opening, the Stratosphere Corporation was forced to file for bankruptcy. This led to the construction of the second tower to stop, with only a few stories partially built and allowed Carl Icahn to win control of one of his companies through the Purchase of a majority of the outstanding bonds.
An important addition was completed in June 2001 for $ 1,000,000,000, which included completion of the 1000-room second hotel Tower.
In the early 2000s, the company sought approval for a roller coaster that would be obtained from several hundred meters of the tower and run in the last proposal on Las Vegas Boulevard. Part of that last proposal included an entry monument on the ride over Las Vegas Boulevard welcoming people to the City of Las Vegas. The Las Vegas City Council does not endorse the project because of objections from the neighbors about noise as possible from the enclosed cars on the planned trip.
