Western Travel, cigars and Native American Images
Cigars were brought along on our first road trip through the American West. Our travel partners were Cigar smokers who inspired by Clint Eastwood in "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly," cigarillos brought along during our stay in the Mojave Desert. At night we camped out, and the cigars were companion accessory to the setting of the cold nights, lit the fire with the endless sky above the fray of diamond Stars and is surrounded by clear, dry air through the delicately scented smoke flavor of the premium cigar.
The American West has a great tradition of cigar consumption in the old saloons and on cattle drives. By the turn of the 19th Century, when cattle and railroad barons played poker and spun deals in St. Louis and San Francisco at the turn of the 20th Century, as industry giants like Henry Ford, JP Getty and Andrew Carnegie were found influencing the century that would see two world wars. The cigar was a companion in smoke-filled rooms and secret poker tables. There was always smoking a cigar or two player-coaches in the west, and then aboard club cars on transcontinental trains from New York to Chicago to California. Cigars do have a trip in the history of the American West.
"Cigar Store Indian" originally designed as plaques, statues, Native Americans, became the symbol of tobacco and tobacco advertising in the early 19th and 20 Century. These statues and memorial plaques were most often in shops, Hotels and restaurants and bars outside used to signal (often illiterate clients) the availability of tobacco, or that smoking is allowed within the establishment. The complete life-size figures of "Indians" are generally used by tobacco-shop owners, used with smaller plaques in the general trade.
Pictures of Native Americans, in connection with the sale of tobacco products to Indians, the plant led to the Europeans who explored and settled in America. Cigar Store Indian Statues appeared first in Europe and once tobacco was available there. The wood carvings were pictures of artists, descriptions adapted instead of the actual first-hand viewings Native Americans were created. The numbers that appear most often as the Europeans in Native American dress ended, were dressed in fringed buckskin, were wrapped in blankets and wearing feathers. You have not really resemble the members of a particular tribe. The sculptor carved chiefs, warriors, princesses and girls, sometimes with papoose. Most of the characters understand tobacco or cigars in your hands or leaves found on their clothing. There were several artists in the United States, which specializes in carving ship figureheads, architectural details and portrait busts, then turned to the creation of figures of the Indians full-time as demand increases. The name of the note are to carve in the genre John Cromwell, Thomas Brooks, the Skillin family, and Samuel Robb, the studios operated in the northeast cities and set of product catalogs.
Modern times have called for the image of the cigar store Indian for all but disappears, but the Indians always considered the source of our beautiful Remembered tobacco. When the occasion calls for a fine cigar, enjoy – especially if you're under the western sky.
