Tournament: The right to play Texas Hold-em?
I lost two hold em tournaments played in sequence by those hands. I'm beginning to think it's bad poker to play. Here's the scenario. I had suited King / Ten Club. The flop came queen, jack and two are two of them with clubs. Now I had an open-ended straight Draw and a flush draw. My opponent bets (blinds were 400), 1500, and I cried. The turn came a Jack. I had not made a straight or flush, one card left, and my opponent went all in. (He had a number of Jacks) I called and the river card was another devil. I do not have my straight or flush and my opponent won the pot with a full House. (He had a bag jack) The question is, should I make a bet like that on the turn without my hand already? It seemed I had to call as many outs I had. Each Association would have a king high flush, ace or a nine would have me an Ace or King high straight. I should everything in only when I have nuts? This game is me mad. Please help.
I agree w / previous poster. I would have folded on the flop. Your opponent has power by squeezing your bet on the flop. He has at least one pair, while all you have is a draw (though a very good one.) Your opponent might also 2 pair or a set. In other words, says his bet he has a made hand that beats your current hand. On the turn you will be in more trouble. 2 cards on the flop had come to make your hand. On the turn your Hand had still not been improved and now you need to get only one card to make your hand. Now you have to think which cards you want the river to come to see. One has to wonder if a K or T comes on the river I'm going to win the hand? If a T to get there was to say a couple Qs Js or or 2 pair or a set. If a K is to lose even a set or 2 pair. So you are only "safe" card clubs, an A or A 9 (15 outs -. Clubs, 3 As and 3 9s 9) So now that we know that, that our outs we have calculated odds the pot and see if it appeals, it is worth? (Not clear from your description, how much is in the pot on the turn.) Basically To calculate how much is in the pot and how much does it cost to make the call. Basically, with 15 outs you need to get pot odds of about 2-to-1 on the Call. That should do what you are. But its hard to do when you know you are far behind and is likely to miss out on the River. Also, you have to , Decide whether you are prepared to take this strong of bankruptcy? In summary, I would have folded the flop after he got on. The all-in bet on the turn lets you know you are definitely behind him. You should not get in this situation, but now that you are in it, you have to calculate the pot odds when calling the all-in bet on the turn, determine is mathematically worth (are you better than 2-1 pot odds?).
